Planning your assessment

The evaluation process.

What happens before, during, and after psychological testing.

01 / BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

Discuss your evaluation.

The first step is to identify the questions you want answered. This may involve concerns about attention, school performance, emotional well-being, or a referral from a medical provider.

Before scheduling, the type and scope of your evaluation, estimated fees, payment arrangements, and any referral requirements will be discussed. Appointment length and the number of visits depend on your needs.

02 / HISTORY & PREPARATION

Share relevant information.

A clinical interview explores your concerns, history, and daily functioning. For children and adolescents, parent input and relevant school information may help provide a fuller picture.

Helpful records can include previous evaluations, school reports, existing IEP or 504 plans, and instructions from your referring provider. You will receive preparation guidance specific to your evaluation.

03 / ASSESSMENT

Complete individualized testing.

Measures are selected according to the referral question. Testing may assess attention, cognitive or academic skills, emotional symptoms, behavior, or personality functioning.

There is no single test battery used for everyone. Interviews, observations, rating scales, and records are considered alongside test results.

04 / RESULTS & RECOMMENDATIONS

Review your findings.

Your written report integrates relevant history, assessment results, diagnostic impressions, and individualized recommendations. Feedback helps you understand what the findings mean and how to use the recommendations.

Depending on your needs, recommendations may address treatment, referrals, school accommodations, or additional support. Report timing and any required documentation will be discussed before your evaluation.
